Georgia Republican's Reported Antisemitic Remarks

The Media Matters watchdog group reports that Kandiss Taylor, the Republican chair of Georgia's 1st congressional district known for her far-right political views, recently made some antisemitic remarks. She reportedly complained that Jewish people are “controlling everything” and alleged that unnamed politicians “pander to the Jews.” Taylor has denied making the statements, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says there is video evidence backing the allegation. (Taylor also streams her show on the pro-Hitler and Holocaust-denying Stew Peters Network).

Key Georgia Republicans have condemned the remarks, including GA Attorney General Chris Carr and Rep. Scott Hilton from Gwinnett County. However, Josh McKoon, the Chair of the Georgia Republican Party, has repeatedly declined comment.

Taylor ran against Governor Brian Kemp in the 2022 Republican primary, and got only 3.4% of the vote, but refused to concede defeat and claimed the election was rigged. She remains one of Trump’s stalwart supporters. Trump in a recent social media post called Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro the “highly overrated Jewish Governor of the Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” complaining that Shapiro “refused to acknowledge that I am the best friend that Israel, and the Jewish people, ever had,” and that “Shapiro has done nothing for Israel, and never will."

Back in May, the New York Times looked at the historical record of Republican voices speaking anti-Semitic rhetoric. Check it out for the plethora of direct quotes.
