AJC: Trump lackeys on election board face backlash for changing rules on certifying election rules
The Georgia State Election Board last month adopted Trump=inspired rules designed to subvert official election returns. The new rules enhanced the power of local election board members to call for an investigation of the conduct of local elections. A challenge from a single board members could delay certification, and multiple challenges over trivial matters could easily send the electoral system into chaos.
Excerpts from the AJC report:
- Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger blasted other pending proposals up for debate by the five-member board as a last-minute “effort to impose new rulemaking” that could cause chaos.
- Georgia House Democrats prepared an urgent appeal to House Speaker Jon Burns to remove his appointee to the board.
- Fulton County’s former elections board chief filed an ethics complaint against the trio that alleges a series of violations.
- The Trumpist trio was dealt a blow on August 19 when Attorney General Chris Carr issued a formal opinion finding that the election board can’t order him to reopen an investigation into Fulton County’s 2020 recount because state law doesn’t empower the board to do so.
At a recent rally in Atlanta, Trump lauded the trio, calling them “pit bulls fighting for honesty, transparency and victory.”
