You Can’t Support Donald Trump and Be a Christian

Republicans descend into sheer thuggery” – By Jennifer Rubin, conservative commentator

Excerpts:

Republicans in two dramatic ways demonstrated Tuesday (February 26) the degree to which they have descended into a party of bullying, brute force and contempt for the rule of law.

  • …a mere 13 Republican House members could muster the courage to vote for the resolution repealing Trump’s blatantly unconstitutional power grab (his fraudulent emergency declaration).
  • The voices of conscience and principle are too few on the GOP side of the aisle…all but the 13 have abandoned their oaths in favor of subservience to a zealous authoritarian who is willing to do just about anything to please his base and satisfy his ego, no matter what the facts.
  • Don’t expect much better from the Senate…Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell…deems the issue too tricky. He cannot reach a conclusion, he lies.
IndieDems Comment:

Talk about telling it like it is! Two years of the Trump presidency have provided the public track record and empirical facts to back up everything Rubin wrote as the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Republicans, of course, know this, too. They just say: “we don’t care.” Can any of you Republicans show us what in the Holy Bible justifies your creation of the Church of I-Don’t-Care Christians? My preacher taught me that the words of God, Jesus, and the prophets were universal and required obedience at all times. Only sinners, hypocrites, and false prophets believed they had a right to interpret the Bible to suit their own agenda—like you Republicans are doing.

Jesus in his own words recognized the hypocrites in religious ranks and flayed them ruthlessly:

“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men… But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:5-6

Who better fits Jesus’ definition of hypocrites than the putative Christians who so zealously participate in the National Day of Prayer while zealously supporting a president who tramples on God’s 10 Commandments and Jesus’ Golden Rule with every Tweet and speech? The President who has borne false witness over 9,000 times in two years? Who just exculpated the monstrous dictator Kim Jong Un from involvement in the hideous treatment of Otto Warmbier?

Heed the denunciation of Republican hypocrites from the Jesus who had nothing to say about abortion or gay rights.
