The Hypocrisy Behind the Catholic Opposition to Abortion

On September 5, 2021, the Washington Post published an op-ed by Salvatore J. Cordileone, the Catholic archbishop of San Francisco, titled “Our duty to challenge Catholic politicians who support abortion rights.”

IndieDems Comment:

Why do we never hear a sermon or read an op-ed by a member of the Catholic hierarchy saying that Catholics have a duty to challenge politicians who:

  • Lock up children in wire cages
  • Demean the military service of John McCain
  • Brag about sexually assaulting women
  • Call women fat, ugly, Miss Piggy, bimbo, and dog
  • Conduct a smear campaign against Amb. Yovanovitch
  • Mock a handicapped person
  • Tell Congresswomen of color to go back where they came from
  • Praise  neo-Nazi demonstrators
  • Preach racism & xenophobia
  • Incite followers to violence.
  • Pardon convicted murderers & perjurers  at the personal whim of a president
  • Wage a war against the Constitution, the rule of law, and common human decency
  • Call a violent mob invading the Capitol “my kind of people”
  • Tell over 30,000 lies in four years, in contemptuous disregard for God’s Commandment
  • Wage a five-year long campaign against Obama based on the Birther Big Lie
  • Engage in adulterous relationships (What happened to Jesus’ admonition, “what God has joined together, let no man tear asunder”)
  • Tell a Big Lie unsupported by any evidence that massive voter fraud
  • stole the 2020 elections
  • Pass laws deliberately aimed at suppressing the minority vote

Catholic Cardinals, Archbishops, bishops, and priests ignore all the above—while telling us that Jesus came to earth to form an anti-abortion cult. The Catholic Church that conducted the Inquisition, the Crusades, burned witches at the stake, locked up Galileo, cozied up to the Nazis and helped Nazi war criminals flee Europe after the war, and tolerated massive pedophilia, seems alive and well.
