//The AJC editorial board cites facts showing Kemp’s reopening is moving too fast//
The Editorial Board of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has written an incisive editorial on why Governor Kemp is moving too fast and too recklessly to lift restrictions put in place to control the coronavirus. The editorial cites reams of statistics and other facts to support its position. Excerpts:
- In lifting his order, Kemp disregarded the objections of many public health experts and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- As of April 30, North Carolina had 14,000 fewer cases than Georgia and a much lower infection rate per capita. But it will remain under a stay-at-home order through the end of the week.
- Ohio, home to a million more people than Georgia, had reported 7,400 fewer cases and 146 fewer deaths than in Georgia. Full-scale lifting of restrictions postponed until May 12.
- Even some Georgia restaurant owners think the governor is moving too quickly.
The editorial’s conclusion: “It’s just too soon.”
